Years ago I lived on the sound and enjoyed walking out to the dock to watch the sunrise and sunset. On many occasions, an older gentleman was out on the dock, too. We didn’t usually talk, though.
One day we both commented on the weather, something trivial. However, he ended up telling me the reason he was often there…
Turns out the doctors said he was going blind, and in a few months, he will lose his sight altogether. He wants to enjoy the view while he still can.
It was an eye-opening conversation for me.
Let’s not take the little things for granted, the small miracles, like our ability to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
